Ashurst advises Aula Energy on Lightsource bp solar portfolio acquisition

Global law firm Ashurst is advising Aula Energy on its acquisition of five operational solar farms from Lightsource bp across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. The portfolio comprises 1GW of operating capacity and a development pipeline of up to 800MW of co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Aula Energy is an Australian-headquartered renewable energy business established by Macquarie in 2023.

This strategic acquisition complements Aula Energy’s wind projects currently under construction, as well as its wind and BESS projects in development, and marks another major step in the company's growth and its ambition to be a leader in Australia’s clean energy transition. The acquisition establishes Aula Energy's first operating fleet across the National Electricity Market.

    Partner Kylie Lane said:

"This is a landmark investment in Australian renewables. We are proud to support Aula Energy as it expands its renewable energy portfolio, taking another important step towards a clean energy future."

The Ashurst team was led by partner Kylie Lane, who was assisted by partner Rehana Box, senior associates Jonathan Bisset and Alexandra Nash, and associates Emily Hong and Jade Stuart (Corporate transactions); partners Aylin Cunsolo, David Jardine and Chris Redden, counsel Odette Adams, senior associates Robert Gough, Kate Latta, Ignacio Payarola and Matthew Selth and associates William Eefting (Projects & Energy transition); partner Jeff Lynn, senior associates Sophie Westland, associates Leanne Mahly (Planning, Access and Environment); and counsel Lucy Woodruff (Real estate).
