Sophie Westland is a senior associate in our energy and resources practice
Sophie has a broad practice covering carbon markets, environment, planning and Aboriginal land law. Sophie works for a variety of clients across energy, resources and infrastructure and has helped clients obtain planning and environmental approvals for major road, rail and energy projects. Sophie has also provided consistent advice to clients seeking to become involved in the carbon markets whether through the development of carbon farming projects or as offtakers in the secondary carbon market.
Sophie has helped clients conduct internal investigations to determine compliance with Aboriginal heritage in New South Wales and Western Australia and regularly provides advice about issues arising under native title, Aboriginal cultural heritage and Aboriginal land rights (in New South Wales).
Sophie has also assisted clients in Victoria with planning appeals before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, building appeals before the Building Appeals Board, planning scheme amendments and works approval applications.
Sophie has undertaken various secondments across a wide range of industries which has enabled her to develop a strong commercial understanding.
