Judith joins from Wendelstein, prior to which she was with Hengeler Mueller. Judith has nearly 15 years' experience in handling complex international arbitrations and cross-border litigation and enforcement procedures, acting both as counsel and arbitrator. She has a particular focus on litigation relating to cross-border disputes in the areas of corporate, banking, construction and commercial law, including international enforcement, and on commercial, corporate and post M&A arbitration.
Partner Nicolas Nohlen, head of the German dispute resolution practice, commented:
"Judith's appointment is an important development for our dispute resolution group. Her expertise will in particular strengthen our arbitration practice. This growth reflects our success and continued commitment to expanding the practice in Germany and across our European teams."
Tom Connor, EMEA head of dispute resolution, said:
"In Germany we are seeing a growing trend towards litigation after significant corporate incidents, as well as mass litigation becoming more widely adopted. As the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to be felt, there has been a rise in contractual disputes and post-Brexit we expect this to further increase. It is critical therefore to have market leading disputes and arbitration capability. Disputes is an area of strategic importance to our firm and Judith will make a significant contribution to our team."
Matthew Saunders, head of international arbitration added:
"Judith's arrival is a boost for our German arbitration practice and the global team generally – she is a super addition to the group."
Derk Opitz, office managing partner, Munich and Frankfurt, said:
"The further expansion of the German dispute resolution group is a central element of our growth strategy for Germany. Judith is an exceptional and very well regarded dispute resolution lawyer. We are therefore very delighted to have won her for Ashurst and that with her we can not only continue the successful expansion of the practice but also accelerate it."
"It is great to be joining a firm with a global platform and for which disputes and international arbitration are key areas of strength. I look forward to working with Nicolas and partners from across the firm, to further develop the German dispute resolution group, especially in the field of arbitration."
