The awards recognise excellence in professional planning work, as well as related activities such as placemaking, urban design, economic development, housing, regeneration, legal advice, environmental consulting and property development.
The firm received the award in recognition of its role in advising Grosvenor on its flagship build-to-rent scheme in Bermondsey, with the judges paying tribute to the team’s “multi-layered approach to legal strategy”.
A team led by partner Trevor Goode, assisted by senior associate Charlie Reid, advised Grosvenor at every stage of the project, from acquisition and development strategy through to securing a fantastic planning permission. The firm's central role on the project and strong links with the GLA and Southwark, enabled Ashurst to streamline the s106 negotiations and secure a commercially robust, viable and deliverable planning permission.
Commenting, Trevor Goode, co-head of planning and environment at Ashurst, said:
"We are delighted to be recognised for our work on another landmark project, it speaks to the calibre of our team and reflects our absolute focus on delivering technical excellence combined with an understanding of viability and deliverability with the ultimate aim of providing excellent client service. Our knowledge of the GLA through acting for them a number of call-in projects made a significant difference in terms of closing down commercial points. The Bermondsey Project is one of London’s largest build-to-rent developments, and we are very pleased to have been afforded the opportunity to support Grosvenor on this project."
Claire Dutch, co-head of planning and environment at Ashurst, added:
"Our strength lies in our versatility and depth of knowledge, where we are able to adapt and provide clients with commercially competitive and innovative solutions in response to changing market demands. Winning the award for law firm of the year is a great accolade and a fitting testament to the team's dedication and expertise in this field."
