Mathew has significant experience advising both public and private sector clients on a range of contracting and procurement law issues including cloud services, cyber security and data protection.
With deep knowledge of regulated industries including telecommunications and health, as well extensive exposure across government, Mathew will bolster Ashurst's already strong offering to Australian Government agencies and regulated sectors.
Mathew began his career at Ashurst, then Blake Dawson Waldron, more than 15 years ago. He has experience at an international firm in London, as Legal Counsel at CSIRO and as a member of the ACT Government's Procurement Board. He rejoins Ashurst from Clayton Utz.
Global co-head of Ashurst's Digital Economy practice, Amanda Ludlow, commented:
"We are delighted to welcome Mathew back to Ashurst, where he will play an important role in our plans to expand our Digital Economy team in Canberra. The rapid pace of developments in digital projects, data privacy and security is driving demand for specialised legal advice across Australian Government agencies and we expect this to escalate over the next decade. Mathew will be a valuable resource for our clients as they navigate this increasingly complex and fast changing environment."
Canberra-based Digital Economy partner, Angela Summersby, added:
"Mathew is well known in the Canberra market and has strong networks across the public sector. We are thrilled that he is returning to Ashurst and look forward to working with him to expand our government-focussed Digital Economy practice and continue to deliver top tier service to the sector. His appointment is a sign of our commitment to invest in the Canberra market."
"Ashurst has an impressive global Digital Economy practice and the firm is well placed to further grow its offering to the Australian Government and broader Canberra market. Recent events demonstrate the importance of both government and private sector organisations closely managing cyber security and digital transformation. I am excited by the opportunity to work with Angela to develop the firm's bench strength across the sector."
