Rob Andersen

Rob Andersen is a senior associate in our dispute resolution practice

Rob Andersen works with government and private clients in civil, public law and regulatory matters, as well as inquiries and Royal Commissions.

Rob is experienced with common law and statutory liability issues.  He acts for and against regulators in civil penalty proceedings and investigations, and has experience in industrial, disability and financial services regulatory matters in particular.  He has achieved successful outcomes for clients defending negligence and intentional tort claims. He has helped clients to recover losses in contract and equity, including in a significant employee fraud matter. He has successfully defended general protections claims made under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth).

Rob advises on statutory interpretation issues, represents clients in judicial and merits review proceedings, and assists clients with freedom of information and privacy law matters.  He has investigated employee misconduct under the Public Service Act 1997 (Cth) and advises clients on public interest disclosure issues. 
Rob assists his clients to give evidence or produce documents to Royal Commissions and parliamentary inquiries. He has particular expertise in parliamentary committee practice and procedure and parliamentary privilege.

He regularly appears as an advocate in the Federal Court, ACT, NSW, Supreme Courts and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.  Rob represents his clients at mediations, conciliations and informal settlement conferences.

Rob was awarded the inaugural Young Federal Litigation Lawyer of the Year award for 2023, presented by the Federal Dispute Resolution Section of the Law Council of Australia.  Rob was also listed in Doyle's Guide's Rising Stars – Litigation, Dispute Resolution & Insolvency – Australia category in 2019-2021 (the category was not published in 2022 or 2023).
