Companies increasingly make their own venture capital deals to win strategic advantage. But investors need to prepare properly before they begin the deal making.

The trend has seen corporate venture capital grow to around one fifth all of global VC deals as companies become increasingly interested in strategic development through routes other than traditional organic growth or merger and acquisitions.
