Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize
In 2014 we launched the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize, a major new prize for up and coming artists globally.
It was built on the success of the Ashurst Emerging Artist initiative, which launched in November 2013 to support and mentor emerging artists and provide them with a platform to showcase their work. Launched by Oaktree & Tiger, an art advisory team and art investment specialist focussing on emerging artists, the Prize has seen a variety of artists working across different mediums successfully exhibit in the Emerging Artists Gallery at the firm's London office, gaining exposure to a wide and varied audience which, in some cases, has led to the artist securing the next important step in their career.
In its first year, the Prize received over 600 entries from more than 250 artists, a remarkable result in its inaugural year. In 2020, its sixth year, the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize attracted over 3,850 artworks entered by over 1,670 artists from all over the world, with works in sculpture, painting, photography, digital and other art forms.
The Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize is open to entries from artists living anywhere in the world, and judged by a panel of renowned art professionals. Entries may use any medium, including painting, photography, mixed media and sculpture. There are £10,000 worth of prizes and also exhibitions for the winners. The overall winner receives a £3,500 prize and an exhibition at the Emerging Artist Gallery in Ashurst's London office. There are prizes and exhibitions for sculpture, photography and digital art entries winners, and an Ashurst Choice Award, for which every employee across the firm has the opportunity to vote for their favourite artist.
In November 2016 we announced an additional prize in association with a charity partner – the New Media Award with Rich Mix. Rich Mix is an independent arts venue in East London which aims to bring together a wide range of people working in various art forms, offering them resources and an increasingly diverse audience. The winner receives a £1,500 cash prize and a solo exhibition at Rich Mix. To qualify for this prize, the themes or medium must be either digital, video, sound, performance, kinetic, etc.
The prize is also supported by the UK's leading independent art supplies retailer, Cass Art, who are giving a £500 gift voucher to the Overall Winner to spend on art supplies, and a £250 gift voucher for both the Sculpture Award and Choice Award.
