Global law firm Ashurst today announces the appointment of Claire Dutch as the firm’s London Managing Partner, with effect from 1 May.

Claire, who joined the firm in 2020, heads the UK Real Estate practice. She specialises in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious planning law, helping clients on strategy and policy at the inception of a development scheme, planning applications, environmental impact assessment, planning agreements, the community infrastructure levy and appeals and judicial review. She has advised on some of the country's most iconic development projects, including advising Lendlease on the regeneration of the High Road West site in Tottenham and The Crown Estate on their 4,000-home development in the green belt.

The appointment follows Helen Burton's two-year term coming to an end.

“I would like to congratulate Claire on her appointment,” said Sarah Sivyour, Head of Region (UK and Middle East) at Ashurst. "Claire’s leadership skills, deep understanding of the legal market and exemplary track record in delivering for her clients make her the ideal choice for this role. She will be invaluable in driving our London office forward.”

Sarah also thanked Helen for her commitment to the firm and its people during her term. "During Helen's tenure we have seen the London office grow stronger through her commitment to clients, community and collaboration. On behalf of the partnership, I would like to thank her for her dedication and leadership."

Paul Jenkins, Global CEO at Ashurst, added: “Claire brings a forward-thinking mindset and wealth of experience to the role. I am confident that under her leadership, we will continue to grow and reach even greater heights. I would also like to extend my thanks to Helen for her successful leadership of our London office over the past two years, which has further strengthened our position in the market.”

Commenting on her appointment Claire Dutch said: "We have a brilliant team here in London, and together we will continue to deliver for our clients and grow our business while remaining a fantastic place to work. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish in this next exciting chapter, where we can build on the strong foundations laid by Helen."
