Tim Rankin is a senior associate in our intellectual property practice
Tim practices in all areas of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property law.
Tim has a particular focus on patent litigation, and has acted on patent infringement and recovation proceedings before the Federal Court of Australia, Full Court of the Federal Court of Australia and High Court of Australia, as well as patent oppositions before the Australian Patents Office. Tim has advised on patent matters relating to small molecules, genetically modified organisms and medical devices, as well as mining plant & equipment, seismology methods, AI and ICT solutions and automation and control systems.
Tim's expertise also includes providing advice on trade marks (registrability and freedom to operate, prosecution, regional and global portfolio management and oppositions), copyright, designs, food law and regulation, anti-counterfeiting and marketing and advertising law.
Tim also advises on the IP aspects of corporate transactions, and has significant experience negotiating and drafting agreements for the acquisition or licensing of intellectual property rights.
