Stephen Somerville is counsel (Australia) in our pro bono practice
Stephen is a pro bono lawyer with over 10 years of experience developing and managing pro bono practices. Stephen develops and co-ordinates pro bono opportunities including strategic projects, referrals, secondments and legal clinics.
Stephen has been on the board of a number of community legal centres (CLCs) and the Australian Pro Bono Centre. Stephen has also completed a number of pro bono secondments with CLCs including the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and Justice Connect Homeless Law.
Prior to working in law firms, Stephen spent 2 years at the Supreme Court of Western Australia as a judge’s associate.
Stephen has been acknowledged for his leadership and commitment to the LGBT+ community in the 2020 OUTstanding 100 LGBT+ Future Leaders’ List.
Stephen is a qualified lawyer in Australia and holds a Bachelor of Laws/Science (First Class Law Honours) from The University of Western Australia. Stephen has also completed the “Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors” course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Masters of Laws subject titled “Not-for-Profits, Law and the State” from The University of Melbourne.
