Matthias Annweiler

For more than 10 years, Matthias advises national and international private equity funds, asset managers and strategic investors on all aspects of German business and corporate law, in particular domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, management incentive plans, and general corporate matters.

As in the previous editions, Matthias is currently ranked “Best Lawyer” by the 2026 edition of “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch” for Private Equity Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, and Corporate Law. Furthermore, Matthias has been recognized as recommended lawyer by Legal 500 EMEA 2025 and 2026 for "Private Equity Transactions: Mid-Sized Deals" in Germany. In addition to his practice, he frequently authors various professional publications, including books, book contributions and scientific articles, focusing on corporate transactions, executive body liability, and foreign direct investments (FDI).

Matthias graduated from University of Bonn, where he also received a Ph.D. with a doctoral thesis in public international law. Furthermore, he holds a Master in General Management from Nordakademie – Graduate School, Hamburg.
