Emma Johnson is a partner in Ashurst's dispute resolution practice, specialising in international commercial arbitration and investment treaty disputes. Emma also has public international law experience, having acted in proceedings for and against States, both under the ICSID Convention and before the International Court of Justice.
Emma has experience of advising on arbitrations under all of the major arbitral rules for clients in various sectors, but has particular expertise in the renewables and oil & gas sectors, including recently acting in a number of multi-million dollar ICC arbitrations arising out of construction and operation of what was at the time of its construction the world's largest solar plant. Emma has also acted in various gas price re-openers, and in gas supply disputes, including in SCC proceedings which led to what was described as the largest arbitral award of 2011 by American Lawyer Magazine.
Emma conducts her own advocacy, before both civil and common law tribunals, and was recognised as a Next Generation Partner in Legal 500 2021, 2020 and 2019 as well as a rising star in Legal 500 International Arbitration Powerlist.
Emma is a member of the ICC's UK Arbitration & ADR Committee.
