Dawn Tan is the founding managing director at Ashurst ADTLaw. She is an experienced commercial lawyer with particular experience and expertise in the resolution of complex and high-profile commercial disputes, including complex banking, finance, shareholder, construction, property, insurance, employment and energy-related disputes encompassing international arbitration and litigation.
Dawn conducts and has acted as lead counsel in international arbitrations under prominent institutional rules. She is an experienced litigator who has appeared at all levels of the Singapore courts, including as lead counsel. She also has a significant advisory practice, having represented and advised multinational corporations, numerous market-leading public and private companies, Singapore government-linked entities, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
Dawn was previously a partner in one of Singapore's top law firms, a Justices' Law Clerk, an Assistant Registrar in the Supreme Court Registry and held teaching appointments at the NUS Law School and the then Department of Law (now the School of Law) of the Singapore Management University. She was also with the Ministry of Trade and Industry on a programme to train Legal Service Officers for Administrative Service postings.
Dawn is triple qualified in Singapore, England & Wales and New York State. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. In addition to her practice, she is the Co-Chair of the Law Society of Singapore Civil Practice Committee, a member of the Coordinating Committee for the Advancement of the Legal Profession and a Member of the Civil Legal Aid and Criminal Defence Aid Means Test Panel (Ministry of Law). She has been appointed as a Member of the Selection Panel of the Singapore Law Reports (Supreme Court) under the Council of Law Reporting. She is also an Executive Council Member and Treasurer of the Life Community Services Society, a faith-based registered charity providing support to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. She has published academic papers on a range of subjects including the choice of Singapore law and jurisdiction in cross-border commercial transactions.
