Alison Elliott

Alison Elliott is counsel in our pro bono practice

With a background in human rights (children's rights, gender rights and business and human rights), she regularly works alongside civil society to identify unmet legal need, and design and implement programs to help address access to justice gaps and issues of public interest. Alison previously managed an award winning pro bono program in the United Kingdom and is informed by applied expertise in public policy, law reform, advocacy, responsible business and pro bono practice management.

Alison is experienced in advising non-profit organisations, charities, community legal centres and people experiencing marginalisation and disadvantage. She has particular expertise in international human rights law and the United Nations system, having advised on the domestic implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in several jurisdictions, authored several reports on children's rights and contributed to various United Nations treaty body reviews.

Alison is skilled at working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across governments, the private sector, civil society and academia, and holds a deep commitment to working with and alongside communities with lived experience of injustice and discrimination. She has served as an Executive Committee member of a peak civil society organisation.

She is a qualified lawyer in Australia (NSW), holds a Master of Laws (International Law and Human Rights) from the University of UNSW and can use Auslan (beginner/intermediate).
