First offered in 1999, the scholarship acknowledges and pays tribute to Rod Bush, the first Brisbane office managing partner. Rod was passionate about the development of young lawyers, and was always impressed by those who worked hard to put themselves through university while excelling academically.

Cassandra is in her fourth year at QUT studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), and hopes to one day be instrumental in improving discrimination laws within Australia, to better support those, like her, who live each day with a disability.

Rod Bush's wife Jenny and Ashurst Brisbane office managing partner Gabrielle Forbes presented Cassandra with her scholarship certificate.

    Forbes commented:

"It is a great privilege to award the Rod Bush Memorial Scholarship each year, to students who are as enthusiastic about the law as Rod was. It is wonderful to see what these young people have already achieved and to hear about their aspirations for the future, and the difference they want to make.

"Cassandra is an exceedingly worthy recipient of the scholarship, and has achieved much in her life already. Her drive to effect change is inspiring and I very much look forward to hearing what she does next."

The Rod Bush Memorial Scholarship provides financial assistance to a full-time law student completing their Bachelor of Laws degree at QUT, who is intending to practice law at the completion of their degree. Criteria for the scholarship includes academic merit, economic need, personal and professional achievements, and career aspirations.
