Hong-Viet specialises in consumer credit and the associated areas of financial crime, privacy law and consumer protection, as well as more broadly in financial services regulation. With more than 15 years of experience, she has established client relationships at a number of major banks and other corporates. She joins Ashurst from HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, where she has been a partner since 2017.

Her addition builds on Ashurst's strong credentials in Financial Services Regulation, which have been recognised by Chambers with a Band 1 ranking. It also enables the firm to better support its growing Risk Advisory consulting business to provide strategic regulatory advice and solutions to operationalise complex regulatory requirements.

Jonathan Gordon, Global Head of Financial Regulation, commented:

"We are excited to welcome Hong-Viet to Ashurst's Sydney office. Financial Regulation is a strength for the firm and her appointment reflects our commitment to growing this capability not only in Australia, but also globally (noting we have recently added new partners in London, Germany, Singapore and Australia). Hong-Viet is a highly talented leader in the market segment with impressive client relationship skills. Her contribution to the growth of our offering will be critical as we accelerate the expansion of our innovative, award-winning, global legal and consulting services capabilities to provide the highest level of service for our clients."

Jamie Ng, Global Co-Head of Finance, Funds & Restructuring, added:

"We are very pleased Hong-Viet has joined our Australian Financial Regulation practice. She brings a high level of specialisation that will complement our global team exceptionally well. Hong-Viet will play a key role in strengthening client service and maintaining Ashurst's position as a leading advisor to financial institutions on complex regulatory matters. Hong-Viet has an excellent track record building client relationships."

    Hong-Viet said:

"I am thrilled to join Ashurst and look forward to working with the Ashurst team on a range of domestic and cross-border matters during an exciting period of growth in the firm's Financial Regulation practice. I am excited by the opportunity to leverage Ashurst's collaborative global platform, strong client-centric model and top tier status to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients."

Hong-Viet is the latest Financial Regulation partner hire at Ashurst, demonstrating the firm's commitment globally to this area of law. It follows the recent appointments of Etay Katz (London), Conrad Ruppel (Frankfurt) and Evan Lam (Singapore), as well as the recent internal promotions to partner of Bradley Rice and Lorraine Johnston (London) and Silvana Wood (Sydney), and Samantha Carroll to counsel (Brisbane). This is in addition to 6 new partners appointed in Australia in the last 12 months in the firm's Risk Advisory business.
