Ahead of the Deal - Australian M&A Briefing

This month we're welcoming Amelia Morgan, who recently joined Ashurst as a Partner in Sydney in our corporate transactions practice.

Amelia advises ASX listed corporates and leading private capital investors on strategic public and private M&A transactions, including across the financial services, energy, consumer and technology sectors, and has advised on some of the largest and most transformative Australian M&A deals in recent times. Amelia is also the co-editor of Bootmakers. Boards and Rogues, a major book published in 2023 on corporate and securities law.

Q1: Amelia, it's very exciting to have you as part of the Ashurst team. Can you tell us a bit about what drew you to the firm?

    Amelia:

I'm delighted to have joined Ashurst!

It's a really exciting time to be at the firm, with the planned combination with Perkins Coie set to create a top-20 global law firm, together with the team's market leading profile and role on many landmark matters and strength across various sectors. I am really looking forward to working with the many excellent lawyers at Ashurst and, importantly, making a positive contribution to the careers of our people throughout the firm.

Since starting, I've been very grateful for the warm welcome I've received from so many partners, lawyers and the broader Ashurst team, who are keen to collaborate on ways to assist our clients. I'm excited to get to work with not only my Australian colleagues but also the broader, global Ashurst network to help clients successfully navigate their most complex and important transactions.

Q2: You've also joined us as we step up The Next Level, Ashurst's Australian client excellence program. Can you tell us about what taking client excellence to the next level means to you?

    Amelia:

I'm really thrilled to be joining a firm where client excellence is at the heart of everything we do. The core of the Next Level is our three pillar promise to demonstrate, in every matter, every interaction and every time, that we care, we make it easy, and we know what matters. These principles are simple at their core, but fundamental to our role as legal advisers.

Part of that is simplifying the complexity for our clients, including by communicating clearly and consistently, and making sure our clients are aware of key issues early, so we can help them plan and prioritise around them.

It also means making a commitment to understanding the business, markets and ambitions of our clients, so we can work with them to deliver commercial outcomes, and champion our clients' success today while also preparing them for the future.

Those are big, bold statements, but we look to live them every day, even in the smallest actions and interactions – including something as simple as making sure that, when our clients email or call, we let them know that we're on the case, and communicating without jargon. I'm really looking forward to being a part of this exciting next stage of our client excellence program.
