Disability & Wellbeing

Supporting the physical and mental health of our partners and staff is an integral part of our role as a responsible employer. We implement a range of initiatives to help partners and staff maintain good mental health and to support those experiencing mental ill health - as well as maintaining our strong track record in providing the support that employees with existing disabilities require to ensure that they can perform their role as effectively as possible. In the UK, our disABILITY network aims to increase awareness of physical and mental health issues in the Ashurst workplace; reduce the stigma associated with the sharing of any disability (particularly mental health issues); contribute to the sense of community for everyone; and, provide resources for those with disabilities or who are caring for those with disabilities.

As a firm we commit to:

  • Provide staff with disabilities with the support necessary to place them on a level playing field.
  • Ensure that the challenges faced by those with disabilities are acknowledged.
  • Secure a working environment that supports disclosure of disability or resilience issues.
  • Support health and wellbeing as an integral part of our approach to business.

We are proud members of the Australian Network for Disability and the Business Disability Forum in the UK. We have trained Wellbeing Officers from across the business in Asia, Australia and the UK to support partners and staff who may be experiencing issues of mental ill health themselves, or who have concerns about colleagues who may be trying to cope in this context.

Two partners with responsibility for disability and resilience sit on our global diversity advisory group.

It has been refreshing to discover how supportive Ashurst have been with regard to my visual impairment. We are both learning as we go along and Ashurst have taken the initiative to successfully resolve every challenge that has presented itself in connection with my disability.
