Matthias von Oppen, LL.M. is a partner in the Corporate Transactions Team in Frankfurt and is admitted as a lawyer and solicitor (England & Wales). He has extensive experience in corporate and capital markets law. In the equity capital markets area, Matthias von Oppen has been advising issuers, banks and stakeholders on national and international capital markets transactions for more than twenty years. In this area, he is one of the lawyers in Germany most frequently recommended by their competitors (Best Lawyers, Germany 2019). Matthias von Oppens' expertise also includes M&A, venture capital and digital economy transactions (including blockchain/DLT) and general corporate law. He also coordinates the China desk of our German offices.
Matthias von Oppen studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg, Berlin and London. He has been admitted as a lawyer since 1999 and as a solicitor (England & Wales) since 2002 and is the author of various publications in legal journals. Before joining Ashurst in 2010, Matthias von Oppen worked as an attorney and partner at two US law firms in Frankfurt and London and spent 12 months secondment in the legal department of an international investment bank.
Matthias von Oppen has been explicitly recommended by name in the JUVE Handbook for many years in the areas of "equity capital market law" and "corporate law". In addition to various other recommendations, clients consider him to be "forward-looking, highly intelligent and commercially savvy" (Chambers Europe 2017) and consider him to be "a pragmatic lawyer who concentrates very strongly on commercial aspects and finds good solutions" (Chambers Global and Chambers Europe 2018).
