Libby McKillop

Libby McKillop is a counsel in our projects practice

Libby specialises in the areas of mining law, land access, tenure and regulatory approvals, native title, and indigenous cultural heritage for resources, Government, energy and infrastructure clients.

Libby has experience in advising on a broad range of indigenous land law issues (encompassing native title, Aboriginal land rights and indigenous cultural heritage). Libby regularly advises on native title processes required for the grant of tenure and approvals, and has been involved in the negotiation of a significant number of native title and cultural heritage agreements. She also regularly appears for clients in native title-related litigation in the Federal Court.

Libby also has experience in securing project approvals, and regularly advises on regulatory mining-related matters in various Australian jurisdictions. Libby also regularly acts for resource authority holders and landholders in negotiating land access agreements, such as compensation agreements and conduct and compensation agreements, for mining and CSG projects.

Libby is also recognised as an Associate to Watch by Chambers Asia-Pacific 2022: Native Title, by Best Lawyers as 2023 Native Title Lawyer of the Year (Brisbane), and as a Rising Star in Native Title by Doyle's Guide.
