Adam Levitt is a partner in our corporate practice

Adam is a senior partner in our corporate team and co-head of Ashurst's global insurance industry group. 

Adam specialises in corporate transactions for insurance companies, banks and other financial institutions.

Adam is regarded by Legal 500 as a "Leading Individual" and a "Notable Practitioner" in Chambers. He started to focus on insurance in 1995 when at Slaughter and May, where he worked on demutualisations and other portfolio transfers. He then spent 11 years as a partner at Herbert Smith before joining Ashurst at the end of 2012.

Adam wrote the original Practice Guide to Insurance and Banking business transfers under FSMA for PLC. He also worked on the first-ever banking business transfer under FSMA. Additionally, Adam has presented at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries annual conference on a variety of subjects including portfolio transfers, using captives and insurance-linked securities.

Examples of transactions Adam has advised on:

  • JC Flowers on its portion of $800m investment in the new insurer, Inigo
  • Punter Southall Group on the sale of Punter Southall Wealth to Canaccord for cash and shares
  • Swiss Re on a VIF transaction and annuity reinsurance with a major Australia life assurer
  • Generali on the sale of Generali Worldwide and Generali Link to Life Company Consolidation Group ("Utmost")
  • Household name multi-nationals on an innovative pension buy-in structure, involving the liabilities of various UK and non-UK pension schemes being reinsured by captive reinsurers, via a range of fronting insurers, together with associated collateral arrangements
