Damien joins from White & Case, where he led the financial restructuring & insolvency team in Asia. Prior to that, he was the Head of Restructuring & Insolvency (Greater China) for Herbert Smith Freehills.
Having worked in Australia, Asia and London, Damien has nearly two decades of experience in all aspects of non-contentious and contentious restructuring and insolvency matters, acting for banks, investment funds and insolvency practitioners, as well as distressed corporate debtors and high net worth individuals. He advises his clients on a broad range of complex domestic and cross border matters throughout Asia, Australia, Europe and the US, across sectors including banking and financial services, mining and energy, oil and gas, maritime and shipping, aviation, agriculture and real estate.
James Marshall, Ashurst's practice head for restructuring, insolvency and special situations, comments:
"Leveraging off our strong finance, funds and restructuring practices in Europe and Australia, Damien brings on board a wide range of experience and knowledge, which will significantly strengthen our pan-Asian team and build on the success we have already achieved. The restructuring practice will create synergy with our existing corporate, litigation and banking teams in the region and help us capitalise further market opportunities. We look forward to welcoming him to the team."
Damien adds:
"Ashurst has a remarkably strong finance offering across Asia Pacific. I look forward to bringing my experience in restructuring and insolvency to further develop Ashurst's market-leading offering in the region."
The firm's APAC finance practice has recently been bolstered by the appointment of
