Performance management, disciplinary action and termination of employment
Two-hour – one-day workshops
Performance management, disciplinary action and termination of employment are three of the most common, challenging and inherently risky processes involved in people management. Most organisations have extensive policies and procedures which need to be carefully understood and followed. Employees can also bring a number of claims, such as adverse action, discrimination and unfair dismissal, to challenge these processes.
Ashurst's Workplace Learning practice offers learning options addressing each of these topics, either combined, or as stand-alone modules. The programs can be from two hours to a full day, depending on what learning outcomes you would like to achieve.
Recommended for: All staff with supervisory or management responsibilities, and their HR and legal advisors
Learning outcomes
At the end of these programs, participants will understand:
- The employment "life cycle"
- When performance management/disciplinary action is required and available options
- Obligations of supervisors and managers
- Your organisation's performance management and disciplinary action processes, steps involved, manager obligations at each step, and where things can go wrong
- Consequences and risks of inadequate performance management/disciplinary action
- Guidelines for performance management/disciplinary action (eg how to use existing warnings, relevance of mitigating circumstances and when conduct is work-related); and
- How employment may be terminated, the legal risks inherent in these processes and strategies to reduce these risks.
We can also conduct a gap analysis and review your policies and procedures in advance of any training.
