Robert Ogilvy Watson is a partner in our corporate practice

Robert has been a partner in the corporate department since 2001. He specialises in advising corporate clients and financial institutions in relation to cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and securities transactions, including IPOs and secondary offerings. Robert is a former secretary to the UK Takeover Panel and has a particular specialism in advising on public takeovers. From 2008 to 2015, Robert was based in Ashurst's Hong Kong office and he is qualified to practice Hong Kong law as well as English law.

Significant transactions Robert has recently been involved in include: (1) advising ITOCHU Corporation on its US$10.4 billion investment to acquire a 20% strategic stake in Hong Kong Stock Exchange listed CITIC Limited together with Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group), and a three-way strategic co-operation agreement between ITOCHU, CP Group and CITIC; (2) China General Nuclear Power Corporation on its investment into the UK nuclear sector, particularly its 33.5% equity interest in the £18bn Hinkley Point C nuclear project; and (3) Xchanging plc on the competing hostile takeover offers from Capita, Apollo, Ebix and CSC.
