Mel Staley

Mel Staley is a senior associate in our projects and energy transition practice

Mel is an experienced projects and commercial lawyer with foundations in industrial and energy infrastructure, commercial law and dispute resolution.

Mel has worked on energy and industrial infrastructure projects in Australia and the Middle East for high profile government clients, listed entities and private companies. These projects include renewables projects such as solar and wind farms, power plant decommissioning, petrochemical plants, district cooling and port expansion. In particular, Mel has spent significant time advising and working with Saudi Aramco and its joint ventures in relation to industrial infrastructure projects aimed at building Saudi Arabian national industry and creating thousands of jobs.

Mel's broad commercial experience gives her the ability to readily assess and understand her client's business needs and strategies – skills that were put to good use during a 12 month secondment to Qantas over the transition period when travel restarted after the COVID-19 pandemic. Mel's work at Qantas included Australian and international leasing and licensing at various airports, fuel purchasing agreements, ground handling contracts and commercial contracting for the lounges business.
