Alexander has a broad, internationally focused restructuring practice. He advises distressed enterprises in restructuring situations, insolvency administrators and debtors on the structuring of insolvency proceedings and distressed M&A transactions, lenders in debtor crises and insolvencies, as well as (financial) investors on distressed investments and NPL transactions. An essential part of Alexander's practice is the conduct of insolvency law related disputes.
Recently, Alexander advised the insolvent entities and the insolvency administrators in the largest insolvency in Germany affecting private investors with more than 57,000 creditors and investments of more than EUR 3.5 billion; the lenders in connection with the insolvency of a large automotive supplier; a leading global services firm on a comprehensive refinancing and corporate restructuring; as well as a major distressed fund on the acquisition of a distressed real estate loan portfolio of a major German bank. He has particular expertise in the automotive, TMT, health care and life sciences sectors. Alexander regularly publishes, and gives presentations on restructuring topics.
He studied law, political science and economics (M.A.) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, and earned a Master in Public Administration (MPA) at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Alexander also spent a year as visiting fellow at Harvard Law School. He was admitted to the bar in Germany in 1998. Before joining Ashurst, Alexander was a partner in the Munich office of a major international law firm, and worked for two leading US firms in London.
