Ashurst advises John Laing on the acquisition of Jobst-NET and EFN eifel-net for the creation of an FTTP platform in Germany
Ashurst advised John Laing Group plc (John Laing) on the acquisition of Jobst-NET GmbH (Jobst-NET) and EFN eifel-net Internet-Provider GmbH (EFN eifel-net). With these acquisitions John Laing aims at creating a single integrated platform to invest in FTTP technology (fibre-to-the-premises) in Germany.
The transaction comprised the acquisition of 100% of the shareholdings in the two telecommunications businesses, located in southern and western Germany, which are both in the early stages of FTTP roll-out programmes, focusing on delivering connectivity to under-served rural areas in Germany. In addition, John Laing has committed to further investments to finance the fibre roll-out. Given the growth potential of the roll-out strategy, this platform represents a material opportunity for further investments by John Laing over time.
