Ashurst advised Greenland Group, a major Chinese state-owned real estate developer, on the purchase of the Ram Brewery site in Wandsworth, south-west London, from Minerva. The site is to be redeveloped and will comprise circa 661 homes, including a 36-storey residential tower, as part of a £600 million, 100,000 sq ft scheme that will also include retail, restaurants, bars and a microbrewery.
The Ashurst team was led by partners Melanie Jordan (real estate) and Trevor Goode (planning), assisted by senior associate Tim Regis and associate Charlie Reid, advised on the structuring of the deal, sales contracts and arrangements for the ongoing negotiations with Thames Water and Southern Gas concerning the delivery of the project. The deal was negotiated in conjunction with Ashurst's Shanghai office with support from Greenland relationship partner Michael Sheng and his team.
David Jones, Head of Real Estate Investment commented:
"We are delighted to have advised Greenland on their first investment into the UK property market. The projects reflects London's position as a key global financial centre and a first choice destination for international capital."
