The UK is again in the process of implementing radical changes to the way renewable energy is supported. On 13 May 2014, the UK Government made some further announcements, with a mix of good and bad news for different technologies.
Perhaps of greatest significance is the announcement that support under the Renewables Obligation for solar PV projects above 5MW is to close to new and additional capacity from 1 April 2015. The Government has also confirmed that under the new Contracts for Difference regime, established technologies will be subject to an auction process from the outset, and is consulting on the special treatment of some technologies within the CfD allocation process.
