Raymon Mainsbridge is a partner in the Sydney office and practice
leader of the Australian banking, finance, insolvency and tax group.
Ray specialises in insolvency law with particular expertise in the
areas of company liquidations, receiverships, voluntary
administrations, deeds of company arrangement and formal and
informal schemes of arrangement. Ray also advises on banking
and insolvency-related litigation matters, including enforcement
actions and preference and insolvent trading actions.
Ray has acted for and advised many specialist insolvency
practitioner clients, as well as a wide range of private sector
clients in the securities, insurance, media, building, consumer
credit and banking & finance industries in insolvency-related
matters.
Ray has been the principal adviser to the liquidators of the HIH
Insurance Group, Australia's largest-ever insolvency
administration, successfully acting for them recently in landmark
cases in the House of Lords in London and in the New York
Bankruptcy Court, which created significant new law in relation to
insolvent administrations with assets and creditors in multiple
locations.
Ray is also one of the main advisers to the administrators of the
Allco Finance Group, and has been involved in advising and acting
for various parties in other recent major Australian insolvency
administrations, including Great Southern, Rural & General
Insurance, Elderslie, Griffin Coal, Babcock & Brown, Sons of
Gwalia, ABC Learning and the Octaviar Limited Group.
